Welcome to Songbird's Nest and Starflowers!

Here it is safe to relax for a bit,
but also to be vibrant and intense,
like the birth of a new star!

The dichotomy of living an authentic life
is always thus, to balance between the
calm and peaceful safety of our familiar
and feathered nest, and to fly out to the
limits of our imagination to discover,
create and redeem this world from
the darkness that pulls at the light.

The night's darkness, the winter's
darkness ~ these are good and holy,
but the darkness of a damaged
beyond repair, destructive, greedy
or completely selfish force must be escaped.

Escape velocity must be reached, and
then safe landings must return.
No wonder we are all spinning like
the colorful musical amazing beings
we are. We must.

Sending love to every soul, every friend
who finds me here. Peace and love.

We Did It!

I am SO happy with the success of our benefit event for the Foundation! You can read more about it on the Foundation blog here:
http://carriedickersonfoundation.blogspot.com/
Brian was just amazing! There was a wonderful crowd of very positive folks who were treated to an incredibly intimate performance of cool jazz, thunderous emotion, tenderness, humor, clever improvisation and consummate musical genius.

Since organizing events is not something I do professionally or frequently, I was working as hard as I knew how to make this event come off as well as I could! I did keep reminding myself that all the elements would fall into place if I kept my goal clearly in my mind's eye. We had a great team helping out (my family, the Foundation board and friends of the Foundation made it all happen) and it was a super cool evening after all~!

Matthew, Benjamin and I really dug playing the pre-show mellow music ; and then , having the opportunity to play a few songs at the beginning of the concert was truly an honor. The audience was beautiful and we had a great time.

Exciting event!!!!

As you might know, I am the secretary of the board of directors for The Carrie Dickerson Foundation and we are having a benefit concert with Brian Haas (of Jacob Fred Jazz Odyssey fame) to raise funds for continuing Carrie's work! Saturday, August 8, 2009, at Fellowship Congregational Church, 2900 S. Harvard, 5:00 to 8:00 PM. We have some great items for our silent auction ~ like a garden sculpture from the Garden Deva! Join us for a lovely happy hour with wine and punch, a light buffet dinner and an evening of music!

Brian is celebrating the release of his solo piano album "Petting Sounds" ~ an improvised piano symphony recorded at the historic studio where The Beach Boys recorded their pioneering album, "Pet Sounds". You can get your advance tickets at Starship, Dwelling Spaces or Under the Mooch or online at http://tinyurl.com/l86kyy. $15 (plus fees) in advance, $20 at the door
Don't wait - this is a limited seating venue - for a very special intimate evening with Brian at the grand piano!

Time passes

Well, we had a fine event for Carrie's birthday - you can read more about it on the CarrieDickersonFoundation blog, which is one I am writing and following, so that you can find it easily.
The boys and I had a good time playing. Now we're at it again, playing at the Pearl Farmers Market this Thursday. We will be playing from 4:30 to 7 and hope to see a lot of folks come out to shop for veggies and listen to music and relax. It's important to get out to these markets so the vendors can make enough to justify the effort and the fresh food is SO good! Support your local farmers and your local live musicians! More soon...

rehearsing 2.0

All the songs are going really well, we just played through all the ones that have electric guitar, and it is too cool how much fun it is. Live music is the best - Play music! Sing songs! Dance!
I hope we have a good turnout tomorrow evening. We are planning to record and see how it is sounds. Have to get up early (for us) to get the equipment set up before noon.

Check on the blog for the Foundation; I will be trying to keep updates posted there about the bills in the state and federal legislatures about truly alternative energy and clean safe power.

Rehearsing

Benjamin, Matthew and I are working on music for the concert Sunday evening. We are playing for the Carrie Dickerson benefit. It is cool ~ tonight Matthew collaborated with me to find some alternative chords in the D Dorian mode (sort of) to add to the chorus of a song I am resurrecting from my days in Oregon. (all those years ago) It gives it the desired mystery I was after. I really love playing music with my sons.

Learning to fly...

Experimenting with all the variables...

Beginning

So here we are at the beginning. Let's see where the path leads ~~~~ for now, I wish you peace, joy and love.
